Moving Tips

Planning and preparation are keys to a successful move. Olympique Movers offer the following tips on the process of packing and moving. The following tasks will help you to prepare yourself as much as possible.

1. Start weeks before your move by deciding what you are going to take. Go through your garage, storage areas, closets and dressers and get rid of unnecessary things.

2. Tape all boxes top and bottom with strong tape.

3. Use a black felt marker to label your boxes. Mark the room and the box contents clearly to ease movers with the unpacking process at your new home.

4. Seal all liquids and bottles in plastic bags. Ensure the tops are tightly secured to prevent leakage and damage to your items. Put them in one or two boxes and clearly label them LIQUIDS and THIS WAY UP.

5. Use packing papers generously and also fill the box not to be shacked and loose.

6. Free all passage ways and entries.

7. Use towels and linens as packing materials for fragile items. Pack plates on edge, not flat. To assure special handling, mark FRAGILE boxes clearly and put them aside.

8. Pack boxes at waist level to avoid back strain, whenever possible.

9. Always pack lampshades in boxes. Remove light bulbs from all lamps.

10. Remove propane tank and charcoal from barbeque. Drain fuel and oil from all motorized tools. Leave fuel cap off till moving day.

11. Dresser drawers do not need to be emptied, but make sure that the drawer's contents are not too heavy. Remove all loose and heavy items (changes, papers, jewelry, bottles, etc.) from your drawers and fill them with clothing, pillows.

12. Any fixtures fastened to the wall such as drapery tracks, ceiling lights or fans should be taken down for the movers.

13. Use mirror boxes or bulk cardboard to pack all pictures and mirrors.

14. Disconnect computers and stereo systems. Labeling the wires with masking tape will make reconnection easier at your new home.

15. Do not box televisions or computer monitors unless you have the original boxes. Computers and televisions will be padded with mover's blankets the day of moving.

16. Disassemble beds and collapse bed-frames before movers arrived, if it is possible for you.

17. Disconnect appliances that will be moved.

Moving Day

18. Get the elevator key from your building manager, if applicable.

19. If possible, send pets and young children to friends or neighbors so they will not be underfoot.

Remember!

A. Freezers will retain frozen food for 24-48 hours, depending on the season.

B.Refrigerators and freezers will need to remain unplugged for a minimum of half an hour after they have been moved.

C.We cannot transport flammable liquids such as fluids, pressurized cans, paint removers, gasoline, munitions, explosives, as it is forbidden by the law.

Unpack as necessary, and take your time!
